ILLUSTRATION & VISUAL NARRATIVE / PROJECT 02

Project 02- Illustration poster: MyTIGER Values Art Competition 2023
In Project 02, our objective was to design and create a poster aligned with the MyTiger Value Art Competition 2023. The task involved selecting one of the 12 UNSDG goals and developing an illustration poster that incorporates with the chosen goal and Maybank TIGER's core values of Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Excellence & Efficiency, and Relationship Building.

Sketch
After completing two different sketches for the poster, I received feedback from Ms. Noranis. She recommended that I proceed with the second sketch as it demonstrated greater creativity. However, she also provided guidance on how to refine the second sketch further.

Figure 1.2 Second sketch.

Initially, my second sketch involved combining the concepts of a clock and the shape of a globe. The body of the globe was transformed into a tree, complete with branches, leaves, and flowers. Additionally, a tiger was resting under the tree-shaped globe.
Ms. Noranis suggested making a few adjustments. First, she proposed replacing the clock with a sundial, adding a unique element to the design. Secondly, she recommended reconsidering the placement of the tiger. It was no longer necessary for the tiger to be positioned directly under the tree-shaped globe. Instead, she suggested incorporating the tiger stripes into the sundial, effectively integrating them into the texture of the sundial.

Progress
In order to delve deeper into my chosen UNSDG goal, which is UNSDG 13 - climate action, I conducted thorough research. During my exploration, I discovered a connection between this goal and UNSDG 15 - life on land, specifically related to the theme of deforestation. To organize and compile the information I gathered, I utilized Canva to create presentation slides incorporating both the research details and visual references.

Following my research and compilation of visual references, I proceeded to create my artwork using Adobe Illustrator. To shape and form my artwork, I utilize the pencil tools in Illustrator. This choice allowed for greater control and ease in achieving the specific shapes I want.

Reflective Writing.
I  experienced increased stress during this project compared to Project 01. This was mainly due to both Exercise 02 and this project coinciding in Week Four. Having to manage both projects resulted in a lack of time, leading to delays in completing the work. As a result, there were still several illustrations pending completion during the final stage of this project.
Throughout this project, I recognized the importance of composition as a crucial element in creating effective illustrated posters. Additionally, I encountered the difficulty of using an illustrated poster as a means to convey a chosen topic.  I found that it is also significant of conducting thorough research on the chosen topic to provide a clear direction for the project.
