ILLUSTRATION & VISUAL NARRATIVE / PROJECT 03

Project 3: Digital triptych
In this project, our task was to select a story from the website provided by Ms. Noranis. We were then required to analyze the narrative of the chosen story and break it down into a three-act structure, consisting of an Introduction, Climax and Epilogue. Using this structure as a guide, we were tasked with creating a digital triptych according to each act. The design format for the triptych was set at 300px x 600px, with each panel fitting within these dimensions

Progress
I utilized Google Slides as a platform to compile all the necessary details. After reading the story, I decided to illustrate story 'Eleonora'. Following the guidance provided by Ms. Noranis, I employed the "fill in the blank" method to break down the story into a three-act structure. This approach helped me summarize the key elements of the story effectively. Using the summary as a reference, I proceeded to sketch out my ideas for each act of the story.

To ensure I achieved the desired style for this project, I find visual references on Pinterest. I wanted to create an illustration with a textured look, such as watercolor or colored pencil techniques. However, upon applying these textures to my artwork, I felt that the results did not meet my initial expectations. In response, I conducted further online research to explore methods of applying texture using Adobe Illustrator. Finally, I discovered that utilizing the texture effect called "grain" in Adobe Illustrator, aligns more closely with my artistic vision.

Reflective Writing.
While working on this project, I experienced a certain level of exhaustion. The workload was tripled compared to previous projects since it involved creating three panels. Researching how to apply texture to the artwork spend a lot of my time. Nonetheless, upon completing the project, I felt a sense of satisfaction, as it was my first attempt at illustrating a story.
Throughout this project, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of composition in illustrations. I dedicated time to practice arranging elements in the foreground, middle ground, and background to create a sense of depth in my artwork. Additionally, I explored the application of texture to make the artwork has unique style.
