Final Project: Animated Infographics
We are required to create a group comprising a minimum of four
members and a maximum of five. Together, we'll collaborate to
develop an animated infographic lasting between 1.5 to 3 minutes,
providing information on the assigned topic. The video must
incorporate data or statistics in some format.
Progress
Week 01
In the first week's tutorial and
practical class, Mr. Shamsul briefed us on the final group
project. We were given the liberty to self-select our group
members according to our preferences. I opted to team up with two
friends, and our fourth member happened to be a classmate who sat
in the same row as us during the week 01 class.
Once we
formed our group, we entered our names into the Google sheet
provided by Mr. Shamsul. We discussed the topics available and
ultimately settled on "The Journey of Plastic Bottles" for our
final project. We chose this topic because we believe it offers
various data and statistics for research. Additionally, it seemed
more accessible to us compared to other options we were less
familiar with.

Week 02
In week 02, we proceeded with our final
project by determining the overall style and narrative for the
animated infographics. Following a group discussion, we opted to
structure the narrative entirely from the perspective of the
plastic bottle, providing viewers with the experience of the
entire journey from the bottle's point of view, essentially making
it the main character.
With this concept in mind, we assigned
tasks accordingly. Gam Jze Shin and I were tasked with developing
the storyline for the animated infographics. Once the storyline
was finalized, Ting Wen Yi took charge of illustrating the
storyboard based on the narrative.

Week 03
In week 03, we began by compiling a list of
all the assets needed for the animated infographics based on the
storyboard we had developed. Following this, Ting Wen Yi took on
the responsibility of creating these assets using Adobe
Illustrator.

In week 04, our team continued in creating the necessary assets. Although our group leader participated in the Intercultural Design Japan Trip, which slightly slowed our progress, we remained on track with our tasks.
Week 05
In this project, my responsibility is as the
sound editor. Therefore, during week 05, I began searching for
suitable sound effects for our animated infographic. However,
since the animated infographic is still in progress, some of the
sound effects I found may not perfectly fit the visuals.
Meanwhile, Gam Jze Shin took charge of script writing, and during
this week, she worked on drafting the script for each shot.

Week 06
In week 06, we presented a short clip of our
progress on the animated infographic to Mr. Shamsul. He commended
the quality of the assets we created, describing them as clean and
simple. He advised us to ensure consistency in the illustrations
for a more aesthetic and orderly presentation. While he found the
overall animation satisfactory, he suggested refining it for
smoother transitions. Encouraged by his feedback, we are motivated
to proceed with the project's completion.
We completed our
animated infographics during the weekend. Following this, Gam Jze
Shim recorded the dialogue voice-over and integrated it with the
animated infographics. Subsequently, he handed it over to Chen Nan
to add subtitles for each shot corresponding to the voice and
adjusted the length of each shot to accommodate both the voice and
the specified length.
Afterward, Chen Nan forwarded the Premiere Pro file to me. I
proceeded to integrate the sound effects into the animated
infographics. I imported all the completed shots into my Premiere
Pro to ensure they remained accessible and viewable. Subsequently,
I imported the previously selected sound effects into Premiere Pro
and arranged them in their appropriate positions. Some of the
initially chosen sound effects were deemed unsuitable, prompting
me to search for suitable replacements. Additionally, I included
some additional sound effects that had been overlooked initially
to enhance the overall appeal of the animated infographics. Then,
I adjusted the volume levels of each sound effect to complement
the respective shots. Finally, I applied audio transitions to each
sound effect, background music, and voice-over audio to ensure
smooth and unobtrusive transitions throughout the sequence.

Once I finished, I shared it in the group chat and awaited feedback from my groupmates for areas that needed refinement.

They recommended increasing the volume of the background music slightly.

Week 07
In week 07, we finished creating the 3-minute
animated infographic and presented it to Mr. Shamsul for feedback.
He suggested avoiding freezing shot 1 of act 5 before
transitioning to shot 2 to prevent confusion among viewers.
Instead, he recommended finding an alternative method for
transitioning between the shots. Additionally, he advised
extending the duration of shot 2 in act 5 before transitioning to
the rolling credits. Once we refined it, we presented it to him
again.
Mr. Shamsul noticed that we lacked citations or sources for the data used. He recommended including them at the end of the rolling credits.

Week 05
Mr. Shamsul suggested adding a timeline to the storyboard to estimate the video's duration, making it easier to manage. He also recommended including planned transitions, like fade-ins or blackouts.

REFLECTIONS
Working on this group project was a new and enjoyable experience
for me. Our group leader was organized and responsible, making
sure we stayed on track and finished the project on time. I
learned a lot from my teammates, especially from our group leader,
who is skilled at creating illustrations. I also improved my sound
editing abilities, becoming more comfortable with Premiere Pro.
Collaborating
on the storyboard was insightful, and I learned how to make
narratives more engaging by adding twists and turns.
Recognizing
my weaknesses, I acknowledge the need for more practice in
creating assets and animations. Moving forward, I intend to
dedicate more time to refining these skills. Additionally, I plan
to continue practicing sound editing to further improve my
proficiency in this area.
