REFLECTIONS
Experience
This information design module has reached its final stage. Throughout the module, I've felt like I've learned a lot. At the beginning, I felt quite stressed and rushed because it's a short semester, and we only have seven weeks to complete three projects and two exercises. This meant the deadlines were coming up quickly, so I had to manage my time very well.
Since I was new to information design, I worked slowly at first and spent a lot of time practicing infographic design. Thankfully, Mr. Shamsul provided me with many valuable suggestions and feedback on my designs. His guidance helped me understand how to create effective infographics, which was very helpful in the later stages of the module.
Observation
After studying information design, I realized that many posters in real life are actually infographic posters. These posters contain various types of information. Before learning about information design, I didn't know what kind of posters they were. I just called them posters. However, after learning about information design, I can now recognize different types of infographics, such as timeline infographics, statistical infographics, and so on.
Additionally, I've noticed that it's easier for me to create posters when I separate them by type of infographic and focus on that type. Each type of infographic has its own guidelines and methods to make it easier for viewers to understand.
Findings
After completing this 7-week study of information design, I discovered several principles that I need to become familiar with and practice in order to create effective infographics. These principles provide guidance on how to present the information in the infographic. I also realized that creating a good infographic is challenging because there are various types of information, such as location, timeline, or statistics, that need to be incorporated into a single infographic. The layout design, font choice, color scheme, and other elements are all crucial factors to consider. The arrangement of information is particularly important, as it affects the readability and understanding of the viewer.
